Bell's Hop Slam -Shaun's Take

After I read Mark's review of Bell's Hop Slam it rang a bell of my own. I know my buddy is a man ahead of his time but I didn't realize that includes his beer taste. :) just kidding buddy. Last April Mark gave me my own bottle of Bell's Hop Slam. I wrote up my notes and just never got off my butt to hit the "post" button. Their Hopslam has been getting a lot of buzz on the internet so I figured I'd post up my review from back then. Thanks buddy for getting me one! You're way ahead of the curve in my book! Now on to the review...

It pours deep honey amber color. Clear with effervescent fine bubbles floating up to a large head of course foam

The hops and honey are clearly present in the aroma giving it a mango or pineapple smell.

It has a light mouthfeel. The hops flash off the sides of the tongue. There is a light sweetness hovering in the back and it helps balance the bitterness of the hops while drinking. The aftertaste is definitely dominated by the hops which linger on the tongue until you put something else in your mouth. It lingers so long it's possible to walk around all afternoon with the hops taste lingering on your tongue.

4/5 on the Mark Scale

Pros: Great strong hop taste tempered with honey sweetness that lingers and let's you reminisce.

Cons: May dominate whatever else you plan to eat or drink for the rest of the day. Don't plan on tasting anything less subtle than say...Habanero Salsa

Verdict: A great beer to enjoy when you want to focus on drinking and enjoying a beer.

Great take on Hopslam. It's a very complex and delicious beer. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I guess it's so good it took you a year to think about what you wanted to write. Ha ha!
