Lagunitas Sucks Holiday Ale

Look at that logo.  There was simply no way I wasn't going to write about this beer, borne of a throughput issue.  That is, Lagunitas Brewing claims they were unable to make their notorious Brown Sugga Ale this year due to a lack of capacity, and instead sent us the Sucks Holiday Ale, splattered with a cool angry Santa logo.  Indeed the beer lives up to the logo's promise.

We've told you about Zombie Dust.  Even Shaun has finally gotten to try it all the way out in Seattle, I believe on tap.  One of my other friends swears that Lagunitas Sucks pretty much approximates Zombie Dust.  That's true to the extent that both are hoppy pale ales with a lot more creaminess and citrus flavor than your standard Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.  Where Zombie Dust has the leaner finish of the two, Lagunitas Sucks has a rounder, creamier IPA-like finish accompanied by a heap of grapefruit and pineapple.  Sucks is also a bit more orange in color whereas Zombie's hue is rather straw-like.

Stylistically Lagunitas Sucks has zero to do with Christmas.  It, like Sierra Nevada's Celebration, is a summertime hoppy beer trapped in a December-ish release date.  This is welcome timing in a December market flooded with everybody's nutmeg replete, thin bodied, malt saturated serving of Christmas Ale by-the-numbers.  Please put me in the pub drinking Sucks with a happily hopped palate, cheap, oversize multicolored Christmas lights flickering, and a bunch of random people gleefully belting out wassail songs.  I raise my Sucks in honor of you, besotted Christmas choir.

Credit Lagunitas for yet another welcome deviation form the ordinary.
